Kappa Sigma boasts one of the most active social calendars at San Diego State. With four exchanges and a pref and two permit parties scheduled for Fall 2006, Kappa Sigma is defintely the place to be when looking for a good time.

Pref

The weekend following rush week each semester one fraternity and one sorority go on a date dance similar to a prom known as pref. Always a fun time, pref is a once a semester event that not only fraternities but sororities as well use to show the new members exactly what is a good time in San Diego State Greeklife.

For Fall 2006, Kappa Sigma is going to pref with the beautiful ladies of Kappa Alpha Theta.

Exchanges

Exchanges occur more often than pref. These dances, similar to the idea of pref, come with a fun theme, and are exclusive to one fraternity and one sorority. Even though exchanges are not used like pref as an introduction to greeklife, they still, however, are a lot of fun and are events to look forward to throughout the semester.

This semester, Kappa Sigma has exchanges with the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, Gamma Phi Beta, and Pi Beta Phi.

Permit Parties

San Diego State was elected fifth best party school in the nation by Playboy magazine for the 2004 - 2005 schoolyear. Not only that, but Kappa Sigma is known for throwing some of the biggest parties at SDSU. It is clear that sometimes parties get too big. In such cases, fraternities at San Diego State throw what are known at permit parties. With a permit from SDSU and the SDSU Police Department, fraternities are allowed to throw huge themed parties with almost no limit to noise and capacity. Permit parties are always the highlight of the semester, and Kappa Sigma is planning for not just one, but two of these for the Fall 2006 semester.

Kappa Sigma permit parties are not only the main event for SDSU, but are also main events in Southern California. In Spring of 2005, Kappa Sigma's Mango Bango permit party had a swimsuit fashion show with the contestants being the lovely ladies of San Diego State's sororities. In Fall 2005, Kappa Sigma's Champagne Room was featured in many different area magazines. There is no argument that Kappa Sigma permit parties are the place to be for all of San Diego State.

Philanthropies

Kappa Sigma's social calendar, while very active and always a lot of fun, is not just debauchery all semester. Our Philanthropy Chair Steven Burlison is responsible for making Kappa Sigma not just a fun place to be, but also a large benefactor in the area.

For the Fall 2005 semester, Kappa Sigma raised over $2,000 walking for the cure for breast cancer. We also raised money for the Kappa Sigma chapters that were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. Not only that, but Kappa Sigma was the host of a sorority-wide philanthropy aiding a local afterschool kids club by spending time with kids. After that, Kappa Sigma hosted a sorority dodgeball tournament, which showed that we can always have a good time, whether we are partying or not.
